SIDMOUTH RFC AND THE SOUTH WEST ONE WEST LEAGUE

 

Sidmouth play in the South West One West League, which is level six RFU Club Championship. The league is one level below the National Leagues and covers the counties of Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Gloucestershire.

 

This is the highest level Sidmouth have played at since leagues were introduced in 1987. They gained promotion in the 2007-2008 season, when they finished as runners up to Paignton. This qualified them for a promotion play off against Bristol side Old Redcliffians. With a superior playing record, Sidmouth gained home advantage and the match was played at the Blackmore Field on Saturday 27th April 2008. In a close and exciting game, Sidmouth drew level, as the game appoached injur time, when Dan Retter converted a try by scored in the left corner by Ashley Cooper. A drop goal in injury time by Retter secured a 23-20 victory.
